Log in with ssh you@your-server. From here on the server is yours.

NixOS VPS questions

How is the first boot configured?

cloud-init sets up your user, SSH key, hostname and static IPv4/IPv6 once. Those live outside configuration.nix, so nixos-rebuild does not undo them.

Can I deploy with my own flake, colmena or deploy-rs?

Yes. It is a regular NixOS system with SSH access, so any NixOS deployment tool works.

Which NixOS version do I get?

NixOS 26.05, the current stable release. Upgrade to newer releases by switching the channel or your flake input.

How quickly is my NixOS VPS ready?

Usually within a minute. On first boot, cloud-init creates your user with your SSH key, sets the hostname and configures your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. Then you can log in over SSH.

Where is my server located?

In our own hardware in Enschede, the Netherlands, connected to Amsterdam over our private backbone. Your data stays in the Netherlands.

What if I lock myself out?

Every VPS has a web console in the dash, so you can always get back in, even if SSH or the network config is broken.
